Adriana Méndez Rodenas has a forthcoming essay entitled, “Mapping Colonial Havana: La Condesa de Merlin's Voyage of Return” in The Palgrave Handbook of Transnational Women’s Writing in the Long Nineteenth Century.  One of the most riveting of 19th century travel books, and part of a longer French edition titled La Havane, Merlin's Viaje a la Habana (1844) records the architecture, history, social and racial hierarchy of  city of Havana; hence, a reading  from the point of view of the spatial humanities.
