Gerardo Alfonso: Romanticismo y compromiso en un trovador / A Romantic and Committed troubadour (Havana 2023), 62 minutes long documentary with English subtitles. Direction and production by Juanamaría Cordones-Cook. Gerardo Alfonso (Havana 1958) is an autodidact romantic and committed troubadour. He was initiated in the Nueva Trova under the influence of Cuban icons Pablo Milanés and Silvio Rodríguez, and later Brazilian Bossa Nova legends Caetano Veloso and Milton Nascimento. Later, he matured to create his own original musical genres. Through Gerardo’s heartfelt declarations in addition to comments from other artists, mentors, friends and family members, this film presents a candid mural of his personal and professional evolution that started in the 80’s and continues flourishing today. The public will be able to enjoy a wide-ranging sample of his creations such as his emblematic Sábanas blancas and his more recent La ruta del esclavo.
