Language Placement Exams
If you plan to study a language at Mizzou, a placement exam helps make sure you start in the course that best matches your experience and skill level.
Online placement exams are available for the following languages:
- French
- Spanish
- German

Advanced
Standing Credit
If you place a course above Elementary Language I and earn a C- or higher, you may receive advanced standing credit for elementary level language courses you did not take.

Credit by Examination
You may be eligible to earn language credit based on scores from the following exams:
- Advanced Placement (AP)
- International Baccalaureate (IB)
- Cambridge A Levels
- College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
- Dual Credit coursework

Missouri Seal of Biliteracy
Students who have earned the Missouri Seal of Biliteracy receive credit for the entire elementary language sequence (typically 12–13 credit hours, depending on the language).
Students who wish to continue studying that language at Mizzou should complete a placement exam to determine the appropriate course level.
