Sarah Arriagada’s research integrates art history, art therapy, and studio practice with a focus on the role of visual materials in therapeutic and educational settings. She is the co-author of 75 Therapiekarten, Kunsttherapeutische Interventionen (Beltz, 2025), a comprehensive card deck and booklet on the practice of art therapy, as well as Von der Zeichnung zur Erkenntnis: Das Squiggle-Verfahren als kreative Intervention (Psychotherapie.tools, 2025). She has also contributed to the exhibition catalog Fragments and False Starts (2023), where she explored the relationship between the studio and the creative process.
Sarah Arriagada is committed to bridging theory and practice in academic, therapeutic and community contexts. Her multidisciplinary work highlights how artistic encounters–whether through creative interventions, curated materials, or reflective writing–can foster insight, resilience, and well-being.
Sarah Arriagada (she/her) is an Instructor of German in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Missouri. She holds an MFA from the University of the Arts Berlin and an MA in Art Therapy from the Berlin Weissensee School of Art. In addition to her academic role, she is an artist, art therapist, curator, and author.
At the University of Missouri, Sarah Arriagada has taught German 2100 (2019, 2020) and is currently teaching German 1100 and 1200 (2025). Her teaching emphasizes creative expression, intercultural dialogue, and student-centered learning. Her experience spans higher education and K–12 contexts, including previous roles in London, UK, and Columbia, MO, where she taught Fine Arts, German, and a range of other cultural subjects.
