Doctoral candidate Raoul Bozo's paper, "Quadrilateral Resistance: The Number  Four as Symbol of Struggle and Defiance in Jacques Stephen Alexis' Les arbres musiciens," has been accepted for presentation at the April 2025 Romance Languages and Literatures conference on "Institutions" at Harvard University in Cambridge. Grounded in the decolonial thinking of Aimé Césaire and Frantz Fanon, this paper examines how Jacques Stephen Alexis employs the number “four” in his novel Les arbres musiciens to represent both the rigid constraints of Western imperialism and the expansive possibilities of Haitian self-determination.

Congratulations, Raoul!
