Korean Section hosts class with Missouri Military Academy Korean students
On October 19, 2026, The Korean Section at the University of Missouri welcomed Mr. Sungtae Hwang and four students in his Korean class at the Missouri Military Academy (MMA). In a combined classroom of University of Missouri Students and MMA students, Mr. Hwang gave an introduction to the work MMA is doing, then gave a mini Korean lesson with a fun quiz using whiteboards.
According to their website, The Missouri Military Academy is the only secondary school in Missouri this to receive a Korean Language Program Grant from the Korean Education Center at the Consulate General of the Republic of Korean in Chicago. Their program, ran by Mr. Hwang, runs a Korean class as a regular academic course, where students engage with Korean language structure and vocabulary, and learn about Korean culture and history. Mr. Hwang is just as committed to learning outside of the classroom as he is inside, as this visit to the University of Missouri gave these students the opportunity to interact with Korean study with college level students and instructors.
